Home Insurance: What you need to know?

If something goes wrong with your home you the first thing you say is “Don’t worry we have insurance, we’re covered.” But how much are you really covered for and what? Most insurance companies will not communicate with you until something catastrophic happens to your home. Knowing your policy can save you when you are hit with troubled times. You could potentially not be covered for areas you thought you were. You could even find out that you are over spending on your home insurance. If you feel you are paying too much shop around for different insurance companies. Do your best to research your policy and figure out what you are covered for and not covered for. You need to act to save you from having to pay out of pocket for things you thought you were covered for. Work with your insurance agent and have then set you up with the coverage that you want and deserve. Also, don’t be afraid to file a small claim. Do not think that filing a small issue is going to raise your premiums. A consumer survey created by consumer reports said “57 percent who filed claims of less than $5,000 saw no premium increase.” If you are someone who does not live near water you should still think about still getting flood insurance. The reason why is because hurricanes and heavy rain can cause areas to be flooded. Not taking into consideration flooding from these natural disasters could potentially cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars if you are not covered. Another category that most homeowners do not even think about is animal damage. If a wild animal was to cause damage to your home you may not be covered for this and this could be rodents, birds, or even raccoons. If these animals cause damage to your home and you are not covered you could be having to pay out of pocket. In the end, know what you are paying for and take action to protect yourself from what could potentially happen to you.
